11/26/08 Another new cel, but this time it's fully original. 10/18/08 New cel in the image gallery. Just a copy of a screenshot from Slayers, but I quite enjoyed painting it, and it is very pretty. 08/24/08 Added a few songs to the music section. #333, the last song I did on my old keyboard before I got my digital piano, #334, the first recording of said digital piano (I should really record more, since that one's quite old already), Guitar #2 (3.2MB), a calm song played on acoustic guitar, and Tracker #2, a fast song written in video-game style (fairly short and loopable). 07/07/08 I've added a new section, the development blog. Basically a place to track my progress on programming projects and hopefully give a few people something entertaining to read. 11/14/07 Animanatee v1.2 is done. Check the programming section for the new feature list. 09/10/07 New program for DS, Animanatee! 07/28/07 Long has it been since I last updated. Although I did upload one new song a while back and didn't bother to update the main page here. But today, there is a new picture that I drew a couple months ago. The DS tracker that I mentioned last update is pretty far along now. I haven't been working on it non-stop, but I may very well take it all the way to completion. The code is quite a work of art itself, if I do say so. Great fun to work on. 02/01/06 Meep, I abandoned my site >_< I did get a new tablet, and drew a few things, but never got around to uploading them. First one was inspired by running around in the nearby mountains a lot last summer, second was drawn last Thanksgiving. Also, an old one that I forgot to upload when I drew it. Hopefully I'll get back to drawing soon. My recent spare time has been eaten up by a music tracker program that I'm making for the DS. Which is slightly insane because working on it is basically the same thing I do the rest of the day, except I don't get paid. But finally I have the entire system under my control, with no library code or anything getting in. Such fun it is to work on, and it will actually be a useful composing tool when it's done. 05/29/05 More sound code, this time for DS!. No article about it, but hopefully will be useful to some (not to mention myself). On the bad side of things, my tablet is appearently dead, so I can't do oekaki until I get a new one :( 05/06/05 Two new issues of sound coding! Day 7 and Day 8. The series is more or less complete now, but will likely be continued with more fun stuff later. 04/10/05 Picture! And even more rare, 2 games! First is a GBA game, Buried at Moat, made for a competition using my RPG's engine about a year ago (yes, I forgot to upload it). Second is a PC game, Mediocre Oiram World, made for a 3-day Allegro compo about a month ago (yes, I forgot to upload it as well). You'll need alleg40.dll (315KB) in your Windows\System folder to run it. Allegro is a game programming library, which normally I would despise and refuse to associate myself with, but it just handles input/getting graphics on the screen/etc, which are generally things you can't do on Windows without a library anyway, so I don't mind using it. 04/06/05 Still no new pictures, but I've been playing lots of music on my beloved giant, touch-sensitive keyboard. Check out #174 for some light-hearted happy music, and #190 for piano with soul. If it stays warm outside like it was today, I'll probably be inspired to draw soon^^ 01/23/05 New picture! Nothing too spectacular, but happy atmosphere. I also hit Notepad's 64KB limit on this page, so I've created the archive page to shove old updates into. 01/08/05 Sound mixing day 6 has been pulled from the darkness and given new life! No, really I just got burned out cause it was so big and confusing. I split it up into two parts, so now I'm pretty happy with it. The other half should be up next weekend, hopefully. 01/04/05 Added the source to the old Sproing demo, at the request of a guy who wanted to see it. Nothing too much, mostly based on Hugo Elias's string model. He has lots of other cool articles too. Check them out if you haven't. 01/01/05 Yay, it's 2005! Bad, I haven't updated in 2 months! Even though I drew a picture about a month ago and could have uploaded it! Here you go, one month old picture, and one 13.5 hour old picture. But if I count correctly, that's only 10 quality pictures in the entire year of 2004. Less than one a month, not enough! I think this will be a better year for drawing though. At least lots of happy solids pictures, and maybe even a mini-manga or two^^ 11/01/04 New picture, with insane detail, which took me several weeks of working on bits and pieces to finish! Except I don't really like it for the amount of time it took, but I just couldn't give it up or all that time would have gone to waste entirely. 10/15/04 Sound mixing day 5 has actually been up for a good while, but I've updated it with an example project and lots of fixes and changes to make things better. 09/07/04 Sound mixing day 4 is finally finished. Converter is complete, moving on to music player. 08/24/04 Sound mixing day 3 is where it's at. This is sort of the boring build-up to the more important day 4. 08/22/04 W00t! 2 articles in one day. Sound mixing day 2 is up. Technically it's no longer the same day, but I haven't slept yet. 08/21/04 New programming article, the first in a series on GBA sound. I've been meaning to do this for about half a year, and with the new compo starting up at GBADev, I figure it's as good a time as any to get it done. 06/28/04 New picture! And not bad at all for how long it's been since I drew. Well I did try to a couple of weeks ago, but the computer locked up cause I got tired of it and left it open for several days^^' This picture is extra cool though, because it was inspired by a long chain of events. First, I saw a picture by Bakenius at Oekaki Central that had a cool forest background, so I decided to draw a huge tree in a forest. Then I got to thinking how cool the mana tree in Secret of Mana is, so I listened to some music from it. One of the songs reminded me of the ending song from Castlevania 4, which reminded me of the cool scene with Dracula's castle collapsing while that song was on, so I decided to draw a castle. Then I couldn't figure out how to make it look good, so I used a snowglobe I have as a reference. Of course a castle isn't worth anything unless you have a warrior to challenge it, so I drew a dude with hair somewhere half way between Goku from DBZ and Crono from Chrono Trigger, and with Frog's cape^__^ I still haven't figured out how I knew not to make the sun round, but I think it was a good decision. Makes it look hazy like the end of the world is coming. Or something. I think I'm gonna do a manga starring him, even if he is a combination of commonly used character ideas. Sometimes those are the coolest, you know? I probably won't have much time for it, but hopefully I can get some nice action going for a while anyway. 05/26/04 3 new pictures today. One average model and one extra pretty one, and one quick one. Unfortunately, I have moved away from home and have neither a tablet or a scanner, so not many pictures 04/18/04 One old picture, which I forgot to upload after drawing, and one new, extra-cute model picture, which is my first use of shi-painter, which is now my favorite thing. Must draw more so I can use it again^^ Although I've been wanting more and more to do another realism-style picture, so I may not get to use the super-pretty pen tool much. I've heard SP has much nicer blending than the old oekaki though, and it does seem to in just the bit of lighting I did in that picture, so I should be able to beat my old realisms out of the water with the next one^^ The eternal question though: what to draw? Cute japanese girls are always the most fun, but I should probably try something else at least once^^' 03/21/04 I actually drew something! Nothing too spectacular, but still, it's a start on getting my drawing abilities revived. Although this week was spring break, and now it's back to homework land, so I may not draw again for a while. Unless I happen to run into a programming slump, that's usually when I'm at my best for drawing^_^ 03/09/04 New version of Quither uploaded to the programming section. Added support for raw data output, chopped the giant main function into a bunch of smaller ones, although I don't think it actually helps the readability of the source very much, and replaced the windows LoadImage function with my own bitmap loader, so the source should be fully portable now. Still no pictures. I've pretty busy with classes lately, so I don't have as much time as I'd like for programming, which means no time at all for drawing. 01/19/04 What on earth? The programming section has finally gotten an update! A tool for converting bitmaps to 8x8 tiles, each using one of 16 palettes of 15 colors each, useful for displaying high color images on 16-color tile layers in GBA games. 01/13/04 Another solids-only picture, which I drew a couple of days after the last one, but forgot to upload. I'm also working on a programming article on sound mixer writing, so hopefully that will be done sometime soon. 01/09/04 Picture^_^ Not much else to report, since the last update was only 2 days ago. 01/07/04 2 new pictures, one pretty old one that I never got around to uploading, which was a collaboration with KarissaEB, and one new one, which I think turned out so-so. Big improvement over the last one, but still a long way to go. I guess that's about it, other than RPG ramblings, which I've been trying to keep confined to my LJ, so I'll write in there sometime soon. 12/07/04 Realism Attempt #D, best yet. Still needs a little sharper shading, so I'll try to remedy that next time. Though I probably won't be doing anymore realism for a while, because for one thing, I haven't done full cel style in ages (except for a small, scribbly doodle-kaki I did the other day, but it still had a watercolor BG), and for another, I'm back into working on the RPG more than drawing. 11/27/03 Realism Attempt #C complete^^ The oekaki board somehow logged me out while I was drawing it though, so it died when I tried to send it. Luckily I print-screened it, but probably not many people will see it. Not much else to report. Going to my grandparents' house for dinner tomorrow. Work on the RPG is slow, as usual. I need a level-up in my tile drawing ability (that's what my siblings and I call it when you just go along slowly improving for a long time, and then all of a sudden something happens and you get a huge skill boost all at once), otherwise I'll never be happy enough to get anywhere. I think I might just settle for placeholder tiles so I can get some actual story done though. 11/20/03 Much new stuff, due to laziness when actually finishing it. #1, drawn shortly after the last update, #2, drawn a week or 2 after that, and #3, which is pretty recent, and was for a contest. Sadly, it only got second place. It seems like anything that involves other peoples' opinions of my work, I just can't make first place, but if it involves pure skill, I can. It's irritating. Except for the GBA demo, which did get first, but there wasn't really anything for it to compete against so I'll never know for sure how it would have done against some like last year's GBADev compo. 10/13/03 2 new piccies, Realism attempt #A, and realism attempt #B. The first one isn't that realistic (mostly due to the 10 minute grass cause I had to leave for class), and the second even has outlines cause I gave up. Prettier than it would have been if I'd kept trying to make it realistic though^_^ 09/21/03 First update in like forever, but it's a big one^_^ Most importantly, I've been working on my demo for the GBADev competition, which is of course complete, since the compo ended a few days ago. Download it here! And don't mind the corny name, I was in a hurry and couldn't think of anything else that would look acceptable on the cloudy background of the opening scene. Head on over to the programming section if you wanna download the source code to it. Next is this cool picture. Then there's the background image from the last scene in the demo, and the background music too. And last, a new MIDI. Still no name. I can't think of names for song to save my life. 07/18/03 Another update already^_^ Drew this shortly after the last update, but I decided to wait until today to update so I could talk about the martial arts clinic I went to today, but then I decided to write about it in my LiveJournal anyway. 07/18/03 Sorry for the delay in updates, I did draw another picture a week or 2 ago, but I forgot to upload it^^; New programming stuff too. I added the sound mixer, except for that darned music player is still incomplete, but I decided to upload it anyway for a guy at the GBADev forum. There's an article on making a C-buffer for software 3D engines (mainly focused on the GBA) too. Originally a post I wrote on the GBADev forum, but it was so long I decided to fix it up a little and call it an article. And last, but not... well I guess it IS least, added a little particle demo that I wrote in an hour or 2 a few months ago, just for the heck of it. 07/01/03 2 new pictures. One warmup, and one masterpiece^_^ And in programming news, my sound mixer works 100%. W00t! Not quite as fast as I'd hoped it to be (about 11% of the total CPU time), but still cool. Now if I can just get the music player for it working, then I can finally have something to update the programming section with^^ Now it's on to highly optimized assembly language tri-filler land~ Otherwise known as hell. But a good kind of hell. ^_^ |
